MAYOR BOB KELLAR IS BOWLING TO RAISE MONEY FOR TEENS
Santa Clarita, Calif. (May 8, 2008) – City of Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar, joins the SCV Youth Project to host the 3rd Annual Bowling For Youts’ Charity Event, to support a local Santa Clarita Valley non-profit organization. On Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Valencia Lanes in Newhall beginning at NOON, members of this family oriented community will spend the day bowling to
raise awareness and much needed funds for the SCV Youth Project.
The SCV Youth Project exists to provide a safe, nurturing environment where teens and families are strengthened, empowered and equipped with the tools they need to live successful and fulfilling lives. The Peer Mentors work with students at local high school and junior high campuses, providing case management and facilitating support groups to help teens deal with issues such as teen pregnancy, grief/loss, alcohol and drug abuse, male/female issues, conflict resolution, anger management, goal setting, relationships, life skills, job skills, etc. The confidential services are available to anyone and are always free.
Bowling for Youts’ brings together Mayor Bob Kellar with community leaders from Newhall Land, The Wildcat Group, Farmers Insurance, Poole & Shaffery Law Firm, Realty Executives, SCV Bank, Martin Distributors, All Corked Up, Rituals Colour Salon, McDonald’s and many others.
“The need for an agency such as the Youth Project is beyond measure. We all know how hard it is to be a teenager; the fact that we can provide a safe place for kids to come share their feelings, and in turn learn some tools to help them make better, smarter decisions as they become adults, is a wonderful gift. We owe it to our youth to be as present and available as possible, as they experience “growing up”. I wish I had something like this when I was in high school”, says Executive Director Kim Goldman, when asked why it is so important to have a program such as this one.
The SCV Youth Project has been in existence for 8 years and has reached more than 20,000 kids through mentoring, support groups, crisis intervention and outreach.
